How to Apply for Financial Aid

A Way to Fit Your Budget

Most Antioch University Online students use financial aid to help finance their education. The Financial Aid Office can design an aid package based on your eligibility and personal level of need. Options to finance your education include Federal and State grants, Federal Direct loans, and scholarships—your education is more affordable than you might think. You can also arrange to pay all or a portion of your tuition each quarter in monthly installments with a tuition payment plan. Contact Student Accounts for more information or to arrange a plan.

Eligibility Requirements

Your family income, size, and the number of people in your family attending college along with the cost of attending Antioch University are all factors that help determine your financial need. Cost of attendance for tuition, books, and cost-of-living allowance are also included in the calculation of financial need. Antioch University uses formulas established by the federal government to determine need, based on the information you provide on the FAFSA.

While financial aid is intended to support only your school expenses, an allowance for indirect costs such as housing, food, personal expenses, and transportation is part of this cost-of-attendance budget.

The difference between the cost-of-attendance budget and your student contribution is what is called your financial need.

3 Steps to Receive Financial Aid at AUO

1. Create your FSA (Federal Student Aid) ID via https://fsaid.ed.gov – Your FSA ID will serve as your electronic signature and provide you access to various Federal Financial Aid websites. Your FSA ID is used to sign legally binding documents electronically. It’s important to keep this information safe.
2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) via www.fafsa.gov – The FAFSA must be completed each academic year in order to access Federal Student Aid.  Use AUO’s School Code: 003010.
3. Complete the Entrance Counseling (EC) and the Master Promissory Note (MPN) – If you plan to utilize student loans, you must complete both documents via  www.studentloans.gov.

• The EC is a tutorial to familiarize you with Federal Student Loans, rights and responsibilities as a borrower, and how to manage your educational finances
• The MPN is your agreement that if you take out any Federal Student Loans, you promise to pay them back and are aware of the consequences if you don’t.

Once you’ve been accepted to AUO, and you’ve completed these documents online, your file will be assigned to an AUO Counselor for review. If additional information is required, you will be contacted by your counselor. Please note that the review process may take up to 1-2 weeks upon submission of the documents listed above.

You will be notified via email once your award is ready for review via AUDirect. Once you log in with your AUO Student ID, select the AUVIEW icon to accept or decline the aid awarded.

You may also review your Financial Aid Award Letter and view your Financial Information for any balances or tuition credits.
