Ingrid Rojas Contreras was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia. Her first novel, Fruit of the Drunken Tree, now out in paperback from Anchor Books, won the California Book Award Silver prize. Her essays and short stories have appeared in The New York Times Magazine, Nylon, Electric Literature, and elsewhere. She is working on a book about her grandfather, a curandero who it was said could move clouds.
