Percentage of time that could be remote (0-100%): Estimated split of 75% remote (student interest and availability inform this mode), which entails Zoom-based planning meetings with Instructor of Record; class preparations like agenda planning, educational resources designed, evaluation, class meetings via Zoom, e-communications with students and faculty as needed.
Method to assess remote work: Course is designed, delivered and evaluated effectively and deliverables are of high quality. Indicators include: responsiveness to enrolled students; online and face-to-face facilitation and communication, and student feedback as relevant and available.
Job Description
- Teaching assistant (TA) to support the design and implementation of a doctoral-level qualitative methods course within the Antioch University New England Environmental Studies Department. Duties include :
- Attend class sessions in person and over Zoom, help answer questions, and provide support to students during classes and online throughout the semester (ave. 3-6 hours/week).
- Meet with students requesting additional support, especially with qualitative data analysis and NVivo (2-3 hours/week).
- With faculty support/consultation, TA will steward and respond to student input via course management system for this hybrid course that entails significant student participation via Sakai (3-4 hours/week)
- Assist with grading assignments (2 hours/week).
- Meet and collaborate with faculty of record to co-design course elements and associated deliverables, as well as address any student issues or supports that may arise (2 hours/week)
- Additional responsibilities to be determined in collaboration with supervisor.
- Work will occur during class time, as well as outside of class (online) as arranged with individuals or groups of students and faculty.
Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills, including written, group facilitation and interpersonal/conversational capacities
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Interest and experience in qualitative research methods, particularly in environmental studies contexts
- Self-motivated and able to seek out support and resources appropriately (e.g., library research)
- Eager to adapt and learn new skills (e.g., qualitative data analysis platforms like NVivo)
- Ability to engage and support environmental studies graduate students of varied interdisciplinary backgrounds
- Understanding of effective pedagogical approaches a plus
- Responsive, empathetic, collaborative and patient
- Compassionate and encouraging attitude
