Method to assess remote work: Supervisor will be in weekly communication with the students to monitor that the work is being completed. The supervisor will also be checking that the data is being analyzed and shared on a Google Drive. Outcomes will be completed and organized datasets, analysis results, and written work if applicable.

Job Description

  • Assistants are needed to help with Caribbean bird, plant, and GIS research projects.
  • The research assistants will work with AUNE faculty, and collaborators at other organizations.
  • Some research will be conducting a GIS and remote sensing analysis for land cover and Kirtland's warbler habitat in The Bahamas (20 hours/wk).
  • Other potential work includes listening to and classifying bird songs/calls from Autonomous Recording Units (ARU) recordings (20 hours/wk).

Qualifications

  • Interest in research that focuses on Caribbean birds and/or GIS
  • Excellent data management and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Quantitative skills; ability to use Excel, and familiarity and experience with using R and ArcGIS would be an added benefit
  • Federal work study funds
