Job Description
The student in this position will conduct stewardship duties on Mt. Monadnock during weekend days or other high use days through the year. Duties include in person discussion with hikers on topics such as hiker preparedness, safety, Leave no trace principles, ecology and history of the mountain as well as the fragility of the summit vegetation. The MERE summit stewardship program is part of a regional network of alpine stewards with a mission to conserve the alpine habitat in northeastern north America. Formal programing at visitor center or on the trail or summit could be offered. Data collection depending on the current research projects of MERE may be required. Technical bulletin and Infographic writing as well as grant writing is also aspects of the position that occur in winter months.
Qualifications
Outgoing, positive individual with strong group dynamic skills who enjoys climbing mountains, talking to people. Has strong desire to learn and share what they have learned about the mountain’s cultural and ecological stories. Strong writer and communicator is desired.
