Number of Positions: 2 (The Writing Center requires a staff of at least 4 to have wide availability for working with students of varying schedules. 2 of my current student employees are graduating, and I would like to replace them.)

Percentage of time that could be remote (0-100%): 100% remote. Student workers will provide synchronous and asynchronous writing support to Antioch students. This includes conducting live tutoring sessions via Zoom and corresponding with students over email. Remote work will also involve developing and facilitating virtual writing workshops, as well as participating in virtual staff meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.

Method to assess remote work: Student workers will meet regularly with the Writing Center Director for supervision, feedback, and ongoing training. Their work will be assessed through observation of sessions and evaluations of materials they develop. Outcomes include delivering clear, constructive, and supportive writing feedback; facilitating effective and engaging workshops; and contributing to a positive and collaborative online learning environment.

Job Description

  • Writing Consultant
  • Writing Consultants support Antioch students by providing constructive, supportive feedback on academic and professional writing.
  • Consultants work with students from a variety of disciplines and degree programs, assisting with writing projects at any stage of the process—from brainstorming and outlining to revision and final polishing.
  • Peer Consultants offer feedback through synchronous sessions on Zoom.
  • In addition to working directly with students, Peer Consultants collaborate with Writing Center staff to develop and facilitate virtual workshops on writing-related topics and participate in regular training and professional development to strengthen their own writing and tutoring skills.

  • Approximate Hours Per Week (6–10 hours total):

  • 5–7 hours providing one-on-one writing support through synchronous Zoom sessions.
  • 1–2 hours developing and facilitating virtual workshops.
  • 1–2 hours attending staff meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.
  • 1 hour managing email communication and appointment logistics.

Qualifications

  • 1) Strong writing skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • 2) Interest in supporting fellow students through collaborative, peer-to-peer learning.
  • 3) Ability to provide constructive and encouraging feedback on a wide range of academic and professional writing.
  • 4) Comfortable working independently in a remote environment and managing a flexible schedule.
  • 5) Experience with Zoom and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, etc.) or willingness to learn.
  • 6) Commitment to attending regular trainings and participating in ongoing professional development.
