Shari Foos is a Marriage and Family Therapist, educator, activist, writer, improvisational artist and the founder of The Narrative Method, an award-winning program for groups that promotes radical human connection by increasing empathy and tolerance. TNM provides workshops and facilitator training for organizations working with underserved populations, including social service agencies, schools, youth programs, and veterans organizations. The Narrative Method also provides programs for higher education and healthcare professionals. TNM just launched DIY Human, offering salons, classes and special events for the public. You don’t need a license to use your humanity.

In 1999, Foos co-founded the Bridge Program at Antioch University Los Angeles, an accredited Humanities program provided free for adults without access to higher education. She is also an adjunct faculty member at Antioch, where she teaches The Narrative Method.

The 12 core concepts of The Narrative Method include deconstructing the damaging effects of what Foos calls the Cult of Culture and the myriad ways in which the onslaught of advertising, social media, institutions and the criminal justice system teach us all that we are not good enough. When we come together in groups and demystify this machinery, we can dismantle the pathologizing of ourselves and see that it is not us, but the culture that is neurotic.

Prior to becoming a therapist, Foos was a television and radio writer, comedienne and host of hundreds of cutting-edge salons and events, bringing together artistic and intellectual communities for entertainment and dialogue. She has been a contributor to Thrive Global, The Huffington Post, and The L.A. Weekly.

Ms. Foos earned a Master of Science degree in Narrative Medicine from Columbia University, (2012) and a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University Los Angeles (1997).
