Prior to joining Antioch University, Dr. Ali Corey was an Associate Professor at Hodges University, a Visiting Professor at The University of Baltimore, and an Adjunct Professor at multiple universities for five years. Dr. Corey has also designed and coordinated a fully online CACREP Accredited program.

Dr. Corey has owned her own private counseling practice, worked in a group practice, acted as the clinical counselor in five different K-12 schools, directed a school-based mental health program, practiced as a college counselor, and served as the assessment counselor in the ER for a behavioral health hospital.

Dr. Corey currently provides clinical assessments for Bradley Hospital, the oldest children’s psychiatric facility in her home state of Rhode Island.

My work as a counselor educator is designed to begin students on the path of discovering themselves and their abilities as counselors, giving them the skills and knowledge they need to be strong practitioners and leaders in the field. Each course is a combination of theory, approach, and practice as is relevant to the course subject. Additionally, the course content is tied directly into the personal experience of the students, as well as my own experiences in the field, in order to develop better understanding of themselves and the course material.
My didactic style tends to be discussion-based, incorporating experiential activities, technology, and conversation to help students fully understand and implement the concepts. Additionally, I explain to all of my students that my goal is that they begin and continue to build their counseling “toolbox” while they work with me in class. When my classes are complete, my students will have tools that include activities, games, assessments, and skills that they can use in their work with clients.
