Ron Pilato, PsyD, received his PsyD from The Wright Institute in 2002, a Master’s Degree in Integral Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies, and his Bachelor’s Degree from Cornell University.

He has more than 15 years of clinical, research, and teaching experience in higher education. Before joining Antioch University Santa Barbara, he was Interim Chair and Director of Clinical Training at Sofia University (formerly the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology). In addition, he maintained a private practice in San Francisco providing Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) classes and consultation to patients of the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Family Medicine Center at Lakeshore.

His doctoral clinical training was focused on underserved populations in the following settings: The Sequoia Center, Golden Gate University Counseling and Psychological Services, The Wright Institute Clinic, San Francisco Department of Public Mental Health, and the Family Institute of Pinole. During his doctoral studies, he completed his dissertation while working as Research Associate on a clinical trial investigating the potential linkage between genetics and alcoholism at the UCSF Department of Neurology. His post-doctoral work was completed at the UCSF Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute, providing treatment and coordination to NIMH funded health psychology clinical trials.

Through this training and experience, Ron has cultivated research and teaching interests in spiritual competencies for clinical psychologists, mind-body medicine, complexity theory, interpersonal neurobiology, prevention of clinician burn out, the integration of cultural diversity in clinical training, mindfulness based approaches, program evaluation, and professional development. Supported by his lifelong connection and love of Italian heritage, language, and culture, Ron developed Pronto Seminars in 2005 where he has co-designed and produced 18 continuing education seminars for healthcare professionals focused on self-care and mind-body medicine, all set in Italy.
