Dr. Jason Frederick received his doctorate in counseling psychology from Springfield College. He completed his internship and post-doctoral training at The Brattleboro Retreat in Brattleboro, VT working in two separate partial hospitalization programs. During his post-doctoral placement, Dr. Frederick developed and implemented a mindfulness-based curriculum for first responders, police officers, military veterans and firefighters in his role within the Uniformed Service Program.
Dr. Frederick is currently a licensed psychologist in New Hampshire and Massachusetts and has a small private practice in addition to his faculty role at Antioch University. He is guided by a deep interest in contemplative psychology and works from a strength-based perspective that emphasizes the therapeutic relationship. Dr. Frederick utilizes Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy techniques to promote insight and foster well-being in his therapeutic practice.
Dr. Frederick’s clinical and research interests include utilizing interventions found within the four foundations of mindfulness, body-mind-spirit integration within psychotherapeutic practice, and developing program/workshop content for stress management and coping skills with first responders. His dissertation research explored how completion of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program aided practicing clinicians with self-care and stress management and how their experiences in the class helped to expand their therapeutic practices/interests.
Before joining Antioch, New England, Dr. Frederick taught as an adjunct professor of psychology at Bay Path University for seven years. He has worked in various roles within the counseling field, including inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, outreach, and group home settings.
