Job Description

  • Teaching Assistant for Ornithology (ES 5150).
  • Attend class sessions (both on campus and in field) (3 hours/week) and help answer questions and provide support to small groups of students during field classes and in-class labs.
  • Arrange time outside of class to be available to students for practicing bird ID in the field, working on class assignments and the final project, and to provide tutoring in content and skills to students who need additional support (3 hours/week).
  • Assistant may also help with grading assignments (2 hours/week).
  • Content and skills will be both bird-related and more general, such as experimental design and implementation, data management, and scientific report writing and presentations.
  • Work will occur during class time as well as outside of class as arranged with individuals or groups of students.

Qualifications

  • A strong background in Ornithology and bird identification in New England
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail
  • Ability and interest in working with other graduate students to build knowledge and skills
  • Ability to attend class 8-11 am Thursdays and 1 6-hour weekend day
