Dr. Shawn Fitzgerald named Antioch University New England Provost and Campus CEO

Antioch University is pleased to announce that Dr. Shawn Fitzgerald, has been selected to serve as Provost and Campus Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Antioch University New England. Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and University Provost, Iris Weisman, EdD, announced the decision to the AU community today.

Weisman said, “Shawn’s strengths as an academic leader and his passion for innovation, student success, partnerships, and scholarship make him a perfect fit for the role of Provost and Campus CEO.”

As campus chief academic officer and chief operations officer, Fitzgerald will provide comprehensive leadership for all educational programs and activities of the campus, promoting quality and progressive educational vision. He will be responsible for the administration of all campus operations, strategic academic planning, and work closely with all other University leadership, offices, and campuses to establish campus strategic priorities.

“I see great alignment with my own interdisciplinary, collaborative professional development and AUNE’s deep commitment to collaboration with students and colleagues. I am excited by the opportunity to lead Antioch University New England and am committed to forming and engaging in educational partnerships with the communities we serve,” said Fitzgerald.

Dr. Fitzgerald comes to Antioch from Widener University, where he served as Assistant Provost of Extended Learning for the Office of Graduate Studies and Extended Learning and Associate Dean School of Human Service Professions and Director of the Center for Education, as well as Dean of the School of Education, Hospitality, & Continuing Studies. His work at Widener included development of an office of Graduate Studies and Extended Learning, development of alumni partnership cohort programs, and leading interdisciplinary teams of faculty to design new innovative academic offerings. Prior to Widener, Dr. Fitzgerald served as Director of the School of Foundations, Leadership, & Administration in the College of Education, Health & Human Services at Kent State University. He also serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Widener Partnership Charter School, Pennsylvania’s first university-based charter school.

Fitzgerald holds a PhD in Educational Research, Evaluation, Measurement from the University of Toledo, an MEd in Educational Psychology from the University of Toledo, and a BA in Psychology from Lebanon Valley College. He has an extensive higher education administrative and service record, and has a number of publications and presentations on education, research, and organizational justice. He has served as a dissertation/thesis mentor annually since 1998.

Dr. Fitzgerald assumed the role of campus Provost and CEO in mid-July.
