The Antioch Society for Psychoanalytic Psychology (formerly the Psychoanalytic Studies Group) was established over 30 years ago and is an affiliate of Division 39 (Society for Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Psychology), APA. We host open meetings for members of the PsyD community with an interest in psychoanalytic theory, research, integration, education, advocacy, social action, and practice. Our group meets monthly to discuss topics pertaining to the field of psychoanalytic psychology, broadly defined. Typical topics for discussion have included historical and cultural events, clinical technique, and research. We also discuss cases, practicum and internship opportunities, conference presentation opportunities, and anything else that is of interest to those who attend. Our membership includes students, faculty, alumni, staff, and supervisors.
There are many benefits to engaging with the Antioch Society for Psychoanalytic Psychology (ASPP.) The group provides a setting for hearing about and discussing the psychoanalytically relevant projects, clinical work, and other activities of students and faculty. The group is also a forum and resource for students to gain information about practicum placements opportunities, as well as things to look for when applying to practica and internship. Dissertation and research topics are discussed and we strongly encourage working on collaborative projects. Many of our members engage in national presentations as well as governance positions within Division 39. The topics for group meetings are generated by the group itself, and this provides capacity for all members to represent their interests.
ASPP has a lending library at the Antioch Psychological Services Center. There is a list of books on this website, and a sign out sheet located at the library. The collection is open to all members of the PsyD community on Mondays. All other days are by appointment only.
