Your Path to Study the Three Ps of Advanced Practice: Patho, Pharm, and Physical Assessment
Antioch's Advanced Practice 3Ps form the foundational science core for advanced practice roles. These flexible, asynchronous courses are tailored for working professionals, deepening clinical expertise in comprehensive health assessments, understanding disease mechanisms, and mastering pharmacological therapies. This program allows working nurses to get a step ahead in their graduate education while completing a year of patient care experience. Taught by experienced advanced practice nurses active in clinical settings, each course prepares you to deliver equitable, high-quality patient-centered care across the lifespan.
Advanced Pharmacology for the Advanced Practice Nurse
This course provides a comprehensive foundation in advanced pharmacology with a focus on safe, evidence-based medication management for common acute and chronic conditions across
the lifespan. Building on the principles of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and pharmacogenetics, students will explore the mechanisms of drug action, clinical applications, side effects, adverse reactions, interactions with
herbal, nutritional, and lifestyle factors, and rational drug selection within and across therapeutic drug classes. Legal aspects of prescriptive authority are addressed, along with strategies for aligning medication management with diagnosis, pathophysiology, and health promotion and maintenance goals. Special considerations for vulnerable and diverse populations are addressed, integrating social determinants of health and cultural factors into medication management.
Advanced Physical and Health Assessment for the Advanced Practice Nurse
This course builds on basic physical assessment concepts to include focused and comprehensive health assessments for individuals across the lifespan. Integrating concepts of social determinants of health, genetics/genomics, culture, and lifestyles in the identification of risk factors, this course focuses on therapeutic communication in a caring framework with individuals and families to assemble a health assessment database, including family, psychosocial, diagnostic, and physical findings. Emphasis is placed on clinical reasoning by critically analyzing the data to determine differential diagnoses, establishing an accurate assessment of the health status, and accurately documenting the encounter.
Advanced Pathophysiology for the Advanced Practice Nurse
In this course, students are oriented to disease as disordered physiology within integrated biological systems. The course provides a foundation of pathophysiology for assessment, diagnostic reasoning, and clinical decision-making in the management of common acute, episodic, chronic, and heritable/genetic conditions. The approach emphasizes attainment and maintenance of full health potential as a goal of health equity. Social determinants of health and cultural considerations are woven throughout this course.
