Would you like to reduce, reuse, and recycle a cap and gown? And contribute to scholarships in the process?
In 2003, a committee of commencement participants began The Cap and Gown Book Scholarship Fund. It supports students who are also single parents by awarding scholarships of $400 towards their required course books. The Office of Development and Alumni Relations asks for your participation in this scholarship program, which fosters a uniquely Antioch spirit of giving and community. You can participate in three ways:
Reserve and wear reused attire from the alumni office for a $30 fee, 100% of which goes to the scholarship fund. When you return the attire at the reuse table following commencement, you will receive a receipt for tax purposes. No return, no receipt! If you keep the attire, you will be cutting into next year’s scholarship awards, so please, if you rent, bring it back!
If you purchase new attire, please consider turning all or part of it in at a reuse station following at the Reuse Program Table at commencement to grow the program, and ultimately the scholarship fund. You will receive an acknowledgement for a gift- in-kind to AUNE. (Take the acknowledgement and your University Cap and Gown receipt to your tax advisor for a possible tax deduction).
If you purchase and keep your new attire as a memento, consider giving an outright cash donation to the scholarship. You can return your check made payable to AUNE with Cap and Gown Scholarship in the memo line at the Reuse Table or the VPAA office.
Fill out this online form. You will be notified as to the availability of the pieces in your order. Supplies are limited and are available first-come-first-served. Once you have confirmation that your outfit is available, you will be sent an email with the amount of the rental. You may pay by check, cash or credit card at the VPAA Office.
At this time the program is limited to Master’s programs because we have no Doctoral regalia in stock. Doctoral Regalia must be ordered from University Cap & Gown.
Attire will be available the week of May 2 in the VPAA Office.
Directly following commencement, there will be a Regalia Reuse Table in the Keene Middle School. Please allow a few moments for the receipt process. If you miss this opportunity to return or donate, you may bring items to Pat Hitchner in the VPAA office.
Participants in the Cap and Gown Book Scholarship will be acknowledged in AUNE’s Annual Report for their contributions.
