Session 3: How to Write a Play in a Day

Now that you are starting to craft your story, discover a medium where you can convey your story simply through your characters and dialogue. Learn the mechanics of writing ten-minute plays (the most widely produced plays) and learn how to structure your story in the confines of ten minutes. (Part 3 of a series, but attendees may take this workshop independently of the others.)

Colette (@colettefreedman) is a novelist, playwright, and screenwriter. Her plays and musicals have been done all over the world, including Serial Killer Barbie and Sister Cities (Jacki Weaver, Alfred Molina, Stana Katic, Jess Weixler). She just finished dramaturgy on Mozart Her Story: The New Musical, which played at Carnegie Hall in March 2023. Colette has produced a number of films and written several indie gems, including And Then There Was Eve which won The Los Angeles Film Festival and is distributed with Breaking Glass Pictures. She co-produced the film Quality Problems, which has won several awards and is distributed with Freestyle Media. Currently, she is in post-production for her coming-of-age film Miles Underwater and her film 7,000 Miles (Wendie Malick) is currently on the festival circuit.
