Sar Surmick is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the Seattle area specializing in Identity, Non-Monogamy, Consent, and Adult Sexuality. She holds a Master’s in Counseling Psychology, System’s focus, from Saybrook University. Sar works with individuals, couples, and groups as well as supervising Marriage and Family Therapy Associates.

Sar is the founder and director emeritus of the Consent Academy, a non-profit educational collective dedicated to teaching Consent in multiple contexts where they taught and developed curriculum from 2016-2022. He continues to teach Consent across the country, develop curriculum, and was a primary author of “The Consent Primer: A Foundation for Everyday Life.”

Sar, a non-binary trans therapist herself, is currently working through the AAMFT Leadership Certificate on a project to raise awareness for MFTs and other psychotherapists about non-binary and genderqueer identities, how to work with them in the therapy room, and how to reduce intentional and unintentional harm.
